7th Community of Practice – Mobility and retention of HWFS

Heroes Community of Practice

Keeping the healthy stock of health workforce – What should we focus on?

Abstract:

Health workforce (HWF) is probably no different to other professions when looking for working environment that will satisfy their needs. Such environmental factors include the quality of working environment, earnings, job security, career opportunities and others. Although other external factors may influence the overall satisfaction of the HWF, the intrinsic ones are most firmly related not only to satisfaction of HWF, but also to delivery of health care, health outcomes for the patients and stability and resilience of the health systems. One of the effects of dissatisfaction is mobility of HWF, both in- and out of the country, intentions to leave the working environment but also drop-outs of the health systems and seeking opportunities in other professions. With this meeting we aim to discuss the major push factors that influence on the HWF mobility and intention to leave and at the same time what can be done to turn these factors in favor for successful retention and attraction of HWF with some examples from three selected countries.
